Since the discovery of X-ray in 1895, radiation has been used in medical imaging, diagnosis, and radiation treatments. Radiation can be used to terminate unwanted tumor growth with electron, proton, or ion beams. In particular, proton and heavyion beams have become popular in cancer radiation therapy because these beam particles deposit most of their energy near the end of their path.
